Operation and Engineering Platform of the Recloser Telecommand and Monitoring System.

Do you know what a Recloser is? A Recloser is an “intelligent circuit breaker” that operates the high-voltage transmission lines, which carry energy to homes, commercial buildings and industries.

In case of any abnormality (like for example, a short circuit), the Recloser, automatically opens to protect the elements of the electricity network from greater damage. When there is no problem, the Recloser monitors the variable states of the distribution lines, for example: voltage, current and power factor. To improve its operational efficiency and performance, Bandeirante Energia, a EDP group company, has been using STMRA since 2002, a M2M solution developed by HEXAGON Telecom.

STMRA is composed of core software and Microrremota (micro RTU) – which work as a simplified control center – installed with the recloser. As the number of reconnectors and micro-remotes increased, HEXAGON realized that Microrremota (micro RTU) could be used as “monitoring points”, feeding the core software with the most widespread information about the distribution networks, offering an accurate radiograph of these networks.

Platoe was designed to explore excellence and aggregate value to the information coming from the distribution networks. Platoe is a platform that uses the most modern software development methodologies available and enables users in different areas, with different purposes, to access the data collected from the distribution networks in a safe and efficient way.

Platoe, furthermore, will be integrated with other software - supervisor (SCADA) and analysis - currently implemented in Bandeirante Energia.

Due to its innovating character, Platoe was developed through Bandeirante Energia’s research and development (R&D) program.
